The lady Eagles won three singles and one doubles Girls Varsity Tennis match on Thursday September 18. We are very proud of these girls. We have several girls that played their first Varsity match.
Eagles No. 1 singles player, Sara Colwell was the first to finish her match, defeating Dahlia Huante 6-1, going on to defeat Taylor Yelland 6-2 and Jogli Negrete 6-1. On the second court, the Eagles No. 2 singles player, Itzel Cardenas, battled hard but fell short to Jogli Negrete 2-6. Eagles No. 3 Singles seed, Zuleica Arechar, had a great match against Taylor Yelland but fell short 5-7.
No. 1 doubles team Ajena Levette and Julissa Campos won easily over Gizelle Lopez and Graciela Ramirez 6-2, before losing a marathon set to Janelle Davilla and Leighanna Heredia in a tiebreaker 5-7. T
The match between the school’s No. 2 and No. 3 doubles was a learning event with scoring and experiencing their very first official Varsity tennis match. We are very proud of Stephanie Rodriguez, Vanessa Arzola, Jazmine Medina and Nicole Valdez who represented GPA proudly and look forward to building on the Varsity experience as Jazmine is only a Sophmore and Nicole a Junior.
There is definitely some growing pains. We are rebuilding and still in a learning process. It takes some time with doubles, but we really like the way the girls battled. The team is getting better every day.
Even though this day did not belong to the Lady Eagles as a team in the win category, we feel very confident about the rest of the season.
We’ve still got a lot of tennis to play. We’re taking baby steps. Making adjustments as we go, but we feel like we’re right where we need to be.
GPA Varsity Tennis Girls play High Tech High Chula Vista on Tuesday, September 24.
