Juneteenth

On June 17, 2021, we reached a significant milestone when President Joe Biden signed a bill establishing Juneteenth National Independence Day on June 19th as a federal holiday. This day commemorates the approximate date when the news of emancipation reached the South, informing enslaved African Americans of their freedom – over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.

GPA’s mission and vision was built with equity, inclusion, and anti-racism at heart. It is important to acknowledge that systemic and structural changes are still necessary to fully realize the freedom that Juneteenth symbolizes. GPA is dedicated to continuing to teach the true history of our nation and to educate future generations to critically examine the historical significance of African Americans and their contributions to our country.

In celebration and honor of Juneteenth, GPA will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024.
