“Aim high! And work to achieve what you’ve aimed for.” This was the message carried by a special visitor to GPA today, Mr. Alan Bersin, as he interacted with our students. While serving as Superintendent of San Diego Unified School District, Mr. Bersin was instrumental in the creation of Gompers Preparatory Academy. He went on to become Secretary of Education for the State of California and currently serves as the Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Chief Diplomatic Officer for the Department of Homeland Security. Our high school students who earned Honor Roll for last semester were treated to a special College Class today, where Mr. Bersin delivered an inspirational speech and everyone was treated to an encore performance of the GPA Magic show. Alan Bersin and his family have been steadfast supporters of Director Riveroll and our school for over 10 years and we greatly appreciate their continued interest and contributions to our community.
